London Gatwick partners with Sussex and Surrey IoT

London Gatwick has formed a partnership with the Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology (IoT) to enhance technical skills and qualifications in the region. This collaboration between businesses and educational providers, including a focus on cyber security, was launched in the 2023-24 academic year. Through this partnership, students will receive valuable airport experience, networking opportunities with professionals, and insights into the latest technical advancements at London Gatwick.

The curriculum at London Gatwick has been tailored to align with the local economy’s needs, with the airport playing a key role in its development. Students will benefit from masterclass sessions and mock interviews conducted by specialist staff from the airport, providing a practical approach to learning.

The Institute of Technology stands out from traditional colleges and universities by fostering a collaborative environment between businesses and educational institutions. This approach aims to cultivate a diverse and skilled local talent pool, essential for the community and the future growth of London Gatwick.

Malaika Khan, a Cyber Security Apprentice at London Gatwick, shared her experience: “My experience at London Gatwick as a Cyber Security Apprentice has been nothing short of extraordinary. I have gained a deeper understanding of cyber security and developed a stronger passion for this dynamic field thanks to the incredible support of my team members and plenty of hands-on experience.”

As part of its ‘Decade of Change’ sustainability policy, London Gatwick is committed to supporting local workforce skills initiatives. This includes designing and delivering training programmes with a particular emphasis on IT and cyber security.
