Aston University opens up courses to students at TIET

Aston University in the United Kingdom will be opening up some of its degree courses to students at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) in India.

The new agreement between the two institutions will enable people studying at TIET to benefit from a globally recognised UK education and enhance their academic and career prospects.

From September 2026 students on undergraduate programmes will have the opportunity to progress onto selected Aston University’s bachelors level courses, and TIET’s Bachelors graduates will be provided with a pathway to Aston’s postgraduate courses.

The announcement was made on 17th June, following a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed by the two institutions the previous October.

The agreement was signed at Aston University by its Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Aleks Subic and Professor Padmakumar Nair, Vice-Chancellor of TIET.

Professor Subic said: “This agreement is a strategic milestone between our two organisations.

“It further strengthens our commitment to creating globally connected opportunities between Aston and TIET.

“It is also an example of how we are achieving our 2030 Strategy priorities, in this case increasing our reach and impact through partnered international and regional hubs embedded within vibrant economies and emerging growth areas.”

Also attending the event was Rajeev Ranjan Vederah, Chairman of TIET, who discussed potential areas of research collaboration with Aston University academic staff further strengthening the shared academic commitment.

He said: “I am delighted to sign these latest agreements between our two institutions. This partnership not only offers valuable international opportunities for TIET students, but also lays the groundwork for long-term academic cooperation between our institutions.”

TIET was founded in 1956, and its 250-acre campus is based at Patiala, Punjab.
