A day in the life at Maynooth University

Ever since I could remember, I’ve always had a long life ambition to study engineering in university. Early on I discovered I had an aptitude for subjects like maths, physics and chemistry. I knew I wanted to do something that had a combination of all these subjects and thus, If I could explain what engineering was to someone, I’d say that it’s in fact a mixture of all these subjects with hint of problem solving.

The very first moment I stepped into Maynooth University, I sensed a second home. This was the one place that I could express my academic abilities, engage in a social life and most importantly, building a pathway to launch myself into opportunities with a career in engineering.

Life at Maynooth University is one that I’ll never forget and I’ll continue to remember for my final year of study. There is so much that goes on in one day and some of the highlights of my day is going to lectures, meeting with my friends & academic professionals, doing my laboratory sessions and working on a semester project! An activity that challenges my skill and gives me a feel for what a real life engineering project could be.

Although engineering is a complex course and requires hard work to excel in, university life is not all about studying. For my third year of study, I became an ambassador the department of electronic engineering. My role consists of bringing social media outreach to as many students as I can with an interest for study engineering whether they’re in secondary level education or otherwise. Social media is a very powerful tool to express views and share ideas and thus, my outreach campaign has been shared over many platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube.

I’ve been an engineering student at Maynooth University for the past 3 years and I can safely say that up until now, I’ve discovered so many opportunities that have put me in the right path and as my own way of showing gratitude, I guide others in how they can get on the same path and experience university life the best way they can.
