SIE supports In2scienceUK: granting students access to STEM careers

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) supports 35 young people through In2scienceUK’s bespoke yearly placement programme for the next four years.

In total, SIE’s support will benefit 140 young people through 2021 to 2025. In2scienceUK’s mission is to promote social mobility and diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths. In2scienceUK promotes social mobility through a high impact programme that empowers young people from low-income backgrounds to gain practical insight and opportunities into the STEM sector. The charity has been honoured with a Queen’s Award of Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity through social mobility, the highest achievement for British businesses.

Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds face significant barriers to their progression in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers. Currently, only 11% of students on free school meals progress to top universities. However, independently compiled statistics conclude that the In2scienceUK programme has a significant impact, with 86% of our students progressing to higher education and 56% to top universities. In2scienceUK leverages the passion and expertise of top science and engineering professionals to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential through life-changing work placements, skills days and workshops.

In2scienceUK Scholars supported by PlayStation Career Pathways Program The In2scienceUK programme includes engaging research modules, mentoring from STEM professionals and career access workshops. The In2scienceUK Scholars supported by PlayStation Career Pathways Programme will promote greater social mobility, equality, diversity and inclusion in STEM to support young people with limited opportunities. SIE’s support will make a difference and enable young people with great potential to access the support they need to excel and become the next generation of engineers and scientists.

In 2021, In2science UK supported 756 young people in London, The South East, The South West and The East of England. Next year, In2scienceUK is expanding to the Midlands and the North West and supporting nearly 900 young people across England out of over 1800 applications.

Colby Benari (CEO of In2scienceUK) reacts: “We are hugely proud to receive SIE’s support, that will enable In2scienceUK to grow this high impact social mobility programme further and ensure we leave no one behind. I would like to thank Sony Interactive Entertainment who are committed to our shared mission and support young people all around the globe. Together we are making the difference and empowering young people to achieve their potential.”
