ABB has signed an agreement with leading technical universities in Vietnam to ensure their students receive a high-quality education in robotic programming and applications.
The agreement – signed with Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) University of Technology, Hanoi University of Technology, Da Nang University of Technology, HCMC International University and Hanoi University of Industry – includes the provision of a training facility for each establishment, complete with robots and simulation software.
Each facility will be equipped to offer students a complete education in robotics and will incorporate a combination of ABB’s GoFa and YuMi collaborative robots, and IRB1100 and IRB 1200 industrial robots. The training facilities will also have licenses for ABB’s RobotStudio offline programming and simulation package, allowing 1,000 students to benefit from the industry’s leading robotic application software.
The agreement also covers provision of a service package to ensure that all robot stations are highly maintained, while the institutions have the option to collaborate on student scholarships internship programs, ABB engineers visiting lecturers and a joint research program about industrial robot applications.
The education of tomorrow’s robotics engineers has long been a strategic priority for ABB Robotics, with a recent international survey by ABB of over 2,300 education providers in 2022 revealing a lack of robotics training and education, with only 25% of educational establishments offering such courses.
In contrast, 80% of education professionals around the world expect that robots and automation will shape the future of employment in the next 10 years. The same ABB survey found that 65% of educators see the main benefit of using robots in education as equipping young people with technology skills as being the main benefit of using robots in education.
ABB Robotics’ partnership with universities in Vietnam is the latest program to expand on ABB’s global program of robotics and automation education.
