Snapchat’s AI chatbot My AI receives mixed reviews

Snapchat has just gotten a whole lot smarter! The social media app has introduced its very own AI chatbot, My AI, and it’s taking the world by storm and causing a bit of a stir.

Powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, My AI is an experimental and friendly chatbot that can answer your burning questions, offer advice on the perfect gift for your friends birthday, help plan a trip, and even suggest what to make for dinner. And the more you interact with My AI, the better it gets to know you, just like a real friend.

But while some users are loving the new app feature, others have criticised its prominence on the app, with some even “review bombing” Snapchat’s App store. Some have also expressed confusion over how the app uses location data.

My AI is pinned to the top of users’ chat feeds and only paid subscribers can remove it. This has led to online criticism and confusion.

However, Snap has addressed these concerns clarifying that My AI “does not collect any new location information” from its users and that location data is only accessed if users consent to share it.

Content shared with My Ai will be used by My AI to improve Snap’s products and personalise your experience, including ads.

Snap also lists on its website what you shouldn’t use My AI for: “Don’t use My AI to generate political, sexual, harassing, or deceptive content, spam, malware, or content that promotes violence, self-harm, human-trafficking, or that would violate our Community Guidelines. You should also avoid sharing confidential or sensitive information with My AI.”

For those who are enjoying My AI, there are even more features available to paid subscribers. By paying for Snapchat+, users can access customisation features, including the ability to pin or unpin My AI from their chat feeds.

While the feature may not always be accurate, Snap has been collecting feedback from its passionate community and improving the experience. And with millions of messages sent per day, it’s clear that My AI is making a big impact.

“Whenever I see one of these chat generating AI bots on social media, my first instinct is that it’s probably there to collect data, so I tend to steer clear. However, it could be very fun,” states Harry Fowle, Editorial Assistant at Electronic Specifier.

Whether you need advice on what to cook for dinner or just want to chat with a friendly AI, My AI is ready and waiting to connect you with the things and people you care about most.
